About The Founder
Often new brands and businesses are born backed by teams of seasoned experts, financial assistance, employees, and developers, but this origin story happened a little differently. What started as my ‘hail Mary’ alternative to my previous 13-year career has become my resurgence of passion and purpose.
My name is Shae and everything you see here is an expression of who I have become through this journey of brand development. I’m so excited to share with you where I came from, why Mother Medusa was born, and how it ended up where it is today.
After a strict religious upbringing that didn’t align with my own personal ethics I chose a different path. What started off as an alienating existence led to a newfound passion for expressing self-acceptance through alternative fashion.
After becoming discouraged with my career and faced with unemployment I resorted to the skills I had developed in relation to aiding my personal style, such as making jewelry, home décor, and accessories to sell at local markets and tradeshows. I soon discovered how healing and rewarding this form of expression could be. My customers also inspired me through suggestions and custom projects to go in new directions from there. Seeing others filled with excitement over bringing their visions to life motivated me to do the same with my business.
When I found out I would be moving overseas where tradeshows would no longer be an option, it made the most sense to grow my online presence by developing a website. Due to being the sole founder and worker with increasing responsibility Mother Medusa is now a combination of handmade items (always stated in the listings) and curated picks from suppliers around the world.
